Privacy policy
Effective October 16, 2026
This policy explains what the Wallet Buddy app and its server (“Wallet Buddy”, “we”) collect, why, and what you can do about it. Wallet Buddy is run by an independent developer. Questions: developer.walletbuddy@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address, and a password. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of your password, never the password itself.
- Your bank data, when you connect a bank: account names, types, last four digits, balances, and transactions (date, amount, merchant, and category). This comes from Plaid, which connects to your bank. You sign in to your bank on Plaid’s screen; your bank username and password never reach Wallet Buddy.
- Your subscription: whether you have a trial or subscription, its plan, and when it renews or ends, as reported by Google Play. Payment details are handled by Google; we never see your card.
- What you set up in the app: budgets, goals, categories, rules, tags, notes, renamed or split transactions, things you add by hand (like your home or car), alert settings, and your profile answers (such as phone number and “About me”). These are backed up to your account so they’re there on a new phone.
A few things stay only on your phone: your app lock and theme settings.
In a web browser, the browser keeps your settings and one cookie that keeps you logged in. The cookie can’t be read by the page or by other websites, and it ends when you log out or after 30 minutes without activity. Your bank data is kept only while the tab is open. Logging out erases what the browser kept.
We don’t use advertising, ad identifiers, or third-party analytics or tracking tools (the login cookie is the only cookie), and we don’t collect your location or contacts.
How we use it
Only to run Wallet Buddy for you: to log you in, keep your accounts and transactions up to date, show your spending, bills, and net worth, send the alerts you turn on, and check that your subscription is active.
Who we share it with
We never sell your data or share it for advertising. We share only what’s needed with the services Wallet Buddy runs on:
- Plaid, to connect to your bank and fetch your accounts and transactions.
- Google Play, to process and confirm your subscription.
- Our hosting provider, which runs the server and database where your account and bank data are stored.
Someone you share your account with. If you invite a partner to share your account and they accept, they can see and change everything in it: your connected banks, balances, transactions, budgets, goals, notes and settings. They see your name and email, and you see theirs. When they join, any banks they had connected to their own account are disconnected. Either of you can stop sharing at any time under Share with a partner in the app’s menu, and then they no longer see your account. To invite someone, you give us their name and email address; we use it only to send them the invitation and show it to them in the app.
We may disclose data if the law requires it.
How we protect it
All connections use encryption (HTTPS). The keys that let us fetch your bank data from Plaid are encrypted in our database, and passwords are hashed. Each account can see only its own data, plus the account it has been invited to share.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account, we disconnect your banks from Plaid and delete your account, bank data, app settings, and subscription records right away. If you shared your account, your partner goes back to their own account. If you joined someone else’s account, deleting yours removes only your login; their account stays. Copies may remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before they are overwritten.
Your choices
- Disconnect a bank any time in the app under Linked accounts.
- Change your name or email in the app under Profile.
- Delete your account in the app (Profile › Delete account) or on the web at /delete-account.
- Stop sharing your account with a partner under Share with a partner in the app’s menu.
- Cancel your subscription in Google Play; deleting your account also stops it from renewing.
Children
Wallet Buddy is meant for adults and is not directed at children under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
